Work Folder vs. eDiscovery Sources - Document Count
The eDiscovery Sources count shows the total number of documents across all source folders, including duplicates. The same document can exist in multiple source folders and will be counted each time - so this number is not a count of unique documents.
The Work Folder reflects your deduplicated, unique document set. After processing, duplicate documents are replaced by the master document, and the duplicates are moved to Manage Orphan Documents. What remains in the Work Folder is your actual reviewable set.
Notes
By understanding permission-based distinctions in the Work Folders List, a User can:
Navigate document structures efficiently
Identify available administrative capabilities
Understand why certain options are not visible
Manage documents appropriately within assigned access levels
